SCHOOL AGE LESSONS

LEVEL 1:Children in this level are beginners who have very little experience in the water, who need to be supported by an instructor and are not comfortable getting their faces and heads under water. Students will work with instructors to increase comfort level in the water and begin to explore different movements in the
water.

LEVEL 2:Swimmers in Level 2 are comfortable putting their faces and heads underwater and are
consistently able to relax on their back and front while floating. They are able to float and push off the wall
and glide with little to no support.

LEVEL 3:Level 3 swimmers are very comfortable in the water and are easily able to float on their front and back and swim short distances unsupported. They have a good knowledge of basic water safety and are
beginning to make good progress coordinating leg and arm action on their front and back. They will refine
front crawl and work on elementary backstroke.

LEVEL 4:Children in level 4 are able to swim across the width of the pool using front crawl. They are consistently putting their faces into the water when they swim and are able to float, swim, and fin on their
back unsupported. This level of swimmer needs consistent feedback from the instructor to build endurance and technique. Breaststroke and butterfly kicks are introduced as well as basic surface and standing dives, treading water and safety skills.

LEVEL 5:Level 5 swimmers are able to swim a length of the pool using a good front crawl with rhythmic breathing and are able to swim backstroke, elementary backstroke and breaststroke with solid technique.
Level 5 will focus on building endurance, refining strokes and will build on butterfly, sidestroke, treading
water, dives and turns. May be eligible to tryout for swim team.

LEVEL 6, PRE-COMPETITIVE:Level 6 swimmers are proficient in the water. They know all 6 strokes well (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, front crawl (freestyle), elementary backstroke and sidestroke). Level 6
will focus on learning stroke drills, building endurance and refining technique. Level 6 swimmers will be
eligible to tryout for swim team (Walla Walla Swim Club).
