IMMEDIATE OPENINGS AT THE WALLA WALLA YMCA:

Custodian: Walla Walla YMCA has an opening for a part time custodian to work approximately 20–25 hours per week.  Vacuums, shampoos and spot cleans carpets and furniture; washes windows. Removes trash in accordance with established procedures. Cleans and disinfects restrooms, locker rooms, swim center, child care center, wellness center; stocks facility with paper and supplies.  Experience in methods of maintaining, cleaning and preserving a variety of surfaces; proper use of a wide range of chemicals according to state and federal regulations; handling and disposing of hazardous materials and blood borne pathogens with care. POSITION SUMMARY:

The custodian position consists of routine work to maintain the cleanliness of the YMCA facility and grounds.  Position receives general direction from supervisor performing cleaning and maintenance duties on the assigned shift.  This position is evaluated through observation while work is in progress and inspection of completed assignments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Cleans buildings by sweeping, dusting, mopping, scrubbing, sealing, buffing, wiping down surfaces, vacuuming, washing surfaces, etc.
  2. Performs ground maintenance by mowing, watering, sweeping and weeding.
  3. Moves and stores furniture and equipment.
  4. Removes snow and ice and other seasonal requirements.
  5. Perform building inspections and ensure building security.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  7. Willing to acquire skills in the operation of cleaning and grass-cutting machines used during assigned duties.
  8. Responsible for the use of safety devices and protective equipment in order to minimize the frequency and severity of work-related accidents.
  9. Responsible for using safe practices and methods in the operation and supplies related to the position.
  10. Responsible for correcting any conditions within the building or grounds that may be hazardous to employees, members, and the public and reporting same to the appropriate administrator.
  11. Other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the organization.QUALIFICATIONS:
    • High School Graduate or equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience.
    • Ability to work as member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little or no direct supervision.
    • Must be able to pass a YMCA background check.
    • At least 18 years of age. (Age minimum based on state law and YMCA policies).
    • Working knowledge of cleaning materials and equipment.
    • Knowledge of the English language so as to understand operating instructions for cleaning equipment and materials and safety and accident prevention.
    • Ability to interact positively with staff and members.
    • YMCA Provided CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training before position starts.
    • Strong organizational and communication skills. 

       PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

      • Ability to pick up and carry 65 pounds.
      • Ability to stand for a prolonged period of time.
      • Ability to operate cleaning and grass-cutting machines.
      • Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
      • Ability to hear the normal spoken word at 25 feet for working and safety requirements.
      • Ability to withstand periods of time in outdoor elements.

     

Personal Trainer: Personal Trainer needed beginning June 1st.  Provide up to date personal training services with Personal Training certificate preferred.  Personal training pay rate starts at $18.00 per hour.  For more information contact Theresa Osborne, Wellness Center Director, Walla Walla YMCA, 525-8863.

Provide up to date personal training services to members, continually monitoring and evaluating effectiveness. 

PERSONAL TRAINER POSITION DESCRIPTION Essential Functions:

  1. Provide safe personal training services to members using appropriate form based on members’ ability level.
  2. Conduct Fit Starts and Jump-Starts as requested.
  3. Track progress in personal training by compiling statistics, monitoring and evaluating effectiveness.
  4. Conduct Body Age testing both on and off site (health fairs, etc.)
  5. Responsible for preventative maintenance and cleaning of all facility equipment.
  6. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  7. Assist in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  8. Respond to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  9. Assist with program committee meetings as required.
  10. Perform duties as assigned to meet the changing needs of the organization.

 Qualifications:

  1. Knowledge or equivalent combination of education, training, knowledge and experience.
  2. Personal Training certification required.
  3. Minimum of two years successful experience in personal training.
  4. Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications as required for the position (HLP, CSCT, NCCA, Accredited Personal Trainer)
  5. Ability to work as an energetic and enthusiastic team member with a high degree of loyalty and commitment.
  6. One to two years related experience preferred.
  7. CPR; First Aid; AED certification and Bloodborne Pathogens training.
