IMMEDIATE OPENINGS AT THE WALLA WALLA YMCA:

Personal Trainer: Personal Trainer needed beginning June 1st.  Provide up to date personal training services with Personal Training certificate preferred.  Personal training pay rate starts at $18.00 per hour.  For more information contact Theresa Osborne, Wellness Center Director, Walla Walla YMCA, 525-8863.

Provide up to date personal training services to members, continually monitoring and evaluating effectiveness. 

PERSONAL TRAINER POSITION DESCRIPTION Essential Functions:

  1. Provide safe personal training services to members using appropriate form based on members’ ability level.
  2. Conduct Fit Starts and Jump-Starts as requested.
  3. Track progress in personal training by compiling statistics, monitoring and evaluating effectiveness.
  4. Conduct Body Age testing both on and off site (health fairs, etc.)
  5. Responsible for preventative maintenance and cleaning of all facility equipment.
  6. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  7. Assist in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  8. Respond to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  9. Assist with program committee meetings as required.
  10. Perform duties as assigned to meet the changing needs of the organization.

 Qualifications:

  1. Knowledge or equivalent combination of education, training, knowledge and experience.
  2. Personal Training certification required.
  3. Minimum of two years successful experience in personal training.
  4. Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications as required for the position (HLP, CSCT, NCCA, Accredited Personal Trainer)
  5. Ability to work as an energetic and enthusiastic team member with a high degree of loyalty and commitment.
  6. One to two years related experience preferred.
  7. CPR; First Aid; AED certification and Bloodborne Pathogens training.

 Physical Demands:

Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations (depending upon the programs).

 Examples of Program Specific Duties

Health & Wellness

  • Creates safe programs for members.
  • Instructs personal trainings, small group trainings, Fit Starts and Jump-Starts for members.
  • Maintains equipment throughout the facility.
  • Purchases equipment, parts and supplies as required.
  • Coordinates and schedules equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Monitors daily operations to adhere to all YMCA health and safety standards and policies.

Summer of Exploration Camp Counselor    (June 19-Aug.25)

Position Summary:

Responsible for the delivery and quality of YMCA programs for teens in the SOE Camp program. Assist youth/teens with activities as well as serve as a mentor assisting with leadership, education, personal development, life skills and other programs deemed appropriate for this age group at both on-site and off-site activities.

Essential Functions:

  1. Promote program growth for SOE camp and assist teens to connect with the YMCA.
  2. Ability to work with teens and understand their environment and culture.
  3. Support and advocate for teen initiatives and specific fundraising efforts earmarked for teen initiatives.
  4. Facilitate communication with teens and staff.
  5. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff, members, teens and others within the community.
  6. Assures compliance with state and local regulations. Ensures that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.
  7. Assists with implementing program events and activities.
  8. Provides data and reports as required for assigned programs.
  9. Performs duties as assigned to meet the changing needs of the organization.
  10. Ability to re-direct teens and maintain control while conducting activities.

Qualifications

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Driver’s license/clean record.
  3. Minimum two years of experience working with youth, preferably teens and middle school age.
  4. Experience and a keen understanding of at-risk youth population.
  5. Experience with a youth summer camp preferred.
  6. Familiarity with community programs, resources, etc., for teen population.
  7. Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations.
  8. Bilingual preferred.
  9. CPR and First Aid certifications may be required.

Program Specific Duties:

  • Assist with creating and scheduling program activities and functions.
  • Assists with monitoring operations to adhere to all YMCA health and safety standards and policies.
  • Assist with organizing and implementing program activities and events, as well as making sure campers adhere to the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
  • Ability to supervise in different activity settings (ie. swimming pools, rivers, lakes and mountains) whilst maintaining professionalism.
  • Ability to drive the YMCA vehicles for long periods of time on trips.
  • Maintain high levels of participation and energy throughout camp.

YCCY Program Assistant

 Position Summary:

Responsible for the delivery and quality of YMCA programs for teens in the YMCA’s Community Center for Youth (YCCY) program. Assist youth/teens with activities as well as serve as a mentor assisting with leadership, education, personal development, life skills and other programs deemed appropriate for this age group at both on-site and off-site activities. Acts as lead YCCY mentor and handles the day to day operations of the YCCY program.

Essential Functions:

  1. Promote program growth for YCCY and assist teens to connect with the YMCA.
  2. Ability to work with teens and understand their environment and culture.
  3. Support and advocate for teen initiatives and specific fundraising efforts earmarked for teen initiatives.
  4. Facilitate communication with teens and staff.
  5. Develop and maintain effective working relationships staff, members, teens and others within the community.
  6. Assures compliance with state and local regulations. Ensures that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.
  7. Assists with implementing Teen program events and activities.
  8. Provides data and reports as required for assigned programs.
